Bottomless (or 'naked') portafilters allow you to see the espresso as it exits the basket. This allows you to immediately identify any faults in your dosing or tamping technique. For example, you may be tamping slightly unevenly without realising it; with a bottomless portafilter you will see espresso leaving one side of the basket before the other side instead of it appearing evenly, something which would be impossible to gauge with a standard portafilter. The bottomless portafilter is a must-have for any serious Breville BES800 series owner! Note: This is not a genuine Breville product, this product is made by Pullman Espresso.

BIGSTEP MK II 440C Mark II is a fancy way of saying “version 2” and we like to be different... Also, the boss man kind of liked it.â€¨440C however, is more deliberate. This is a 440 grade stainless steel, and has the highest carbon content for a 400 stainless steel series. â€¨It is then heat-treated to reach 43-45 HRC. (let’s just say it’s freaking hard!) THE BIGSTEP REFERS TO THE DESIGN OF THE LARGER DIAMETER 'STEPPED EDGE' MEASURING IN AT 58.55MM (+/-0.02MM). This increases the surface area of extractable coffee to be covered, including the prevention of a pinched edge of coffee grind that can occur when using such a large (or incorrectly) sized base. Mainly designed for ridgeless precision baskets (Example,Pullman Filtration, VST, IMS and Strada, Synesso and some LM baskets). If unsure please send us your basket and we can measure and custom fit. This base is made from an extremely high strength (min 43 Rockwell) 440C Grade Stainless steel in Australia from premium grade materials. This design produces incredible results for extraction in all applications. As Pullman cannot control the large spectrum of different internal diameters across many brands and weight ratings of precision filter baskets, please note that the BigStep base may not fit in some production batches. We strongly suggest purchasing Pullman Filtration Baskets, which are fitted to the BigStep Base, and are each manually checked for consistency.

Other benefits of the Pullman bases include: - Stainless steel bases are precision-machined with True Tamp rings for a consistent and level tamp - An ergonomic synthetic rubber compression zone for maximum comfort; also minimises high-volume fatigue - And a set of 3 stackable straight-sided stainless steel spacers, providing up to 15mm of height adjustment in 8 steps without compromising the tamper's ergonomics. Because no two hands are the same size, an optimum handle height makes a large difference to the busy barista.
